Students will be undertaking a course that leads to a nationally regulated qualification awarded by the Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB) – the only Ofqual approved awarding body to specialise in the field of counselling and supervision.
This qualification is intended for candidates who have already acquired a recognised qualification in counselling skills and want to: take the next step in training to become a counsellor learn more about counselling theory, ethics and mental health be prepared to work as a professional counsellor in an agency setting
This qualification is made up of seven learning outcomes and associated assessment criteria. This structure is based on the seven processes of the CPCAB model. To achieve the qualification, you must be (a) internally assessed by your tutor as Proficient in all seven learning outcomes; and (b) externally assessed by CPCAB as Proficient.
Students will need to keep a portfolio of their coursework, which they can use to show their tutor what they have learnt. Keeping a portfolio of their coursework will not only provide their tutor with evidence of their learning, but also really help them with the learning process itself.
Students must have completed at least two-thirds of the course before undertaking an external assessment. For the external assessment, students will watch a short DVD of a counselling session and then complete a written Candidate Feedback Paper under exam conditions.
In order to make sure that assessment is fair to all candidates, CPCAB requires all registered centres to have an appropriate candidate support system in place and to make appropriate arrangements to meet individual assessment needs. Students can ensure that their own learning and assessment needs are being met by discussing their own needs/difficulties with their tutor, who can ensure that they receive the appropriate support at their centre.
If a student’s external assessment result is ‘Not Proficient’, the candidate’s centre can make arrangements with CPCAB for them to re-sit the assessment or else appeal against the assessment result. A fee is charged for both a re-sit and an appeal, but if the appeal is successful, the candidate’s fee is refunded. The candidate’s tutor can ask CPCAB for verbal feedback on external assessment results in order to help the centre decide whether an appeal is warranted.
Should students wish to withdraw from one of our courses, they will have until the first session (class one) from the start of teaching in which they can cancel their place on the programme and receive a refund if they’ve paid in full (candidates must however pay for the first weekend - £226.97 Registration fee – which is non-refundable) – after which students will not be able to receive a refund, as by registering to study with us, you have agreed to pay your fees in full. Candidates are therefore, expected to pay their fees in full, whether they wish to continue or not after the first session, unless they have a mitigating circumstance, whereby evidence will have to be provided.
In order to register on to our course, students will be required to pay a £226.97 Registration Fee (effective from 1st January 2020) which is non-refundable.  The Registration Fee must be received within two weeks prior to the student’s course to guarantee their place on the chosen Alif Institute Islamic Counselling programme.
