Diploma In Counselling

Why take this course?
This popular 2 year course is frequently taken by social workers, teachers, nurses, pastoral workers and others in the caring and health professions who seek a post- qualification award in counselling. The course is not as academically demanding as course 5000N which contains University accredited modules.

Course Content
The four modules of the Diploma are as follows:

  • Certificate in Counselling (Course 121)
  • Grief and Bereavement Counselling (Course 500)
  • Couple and Family Counselling (Course 123)
  • Crisis Counselling (Course 420)

The Certificate in Counselling module lays the foundation for progress to the more advanced modules. Study time is about 20 to 24 months.

Materials supplied with this course
The course syllabus is supplemented with suggested background reading and by a wide range of multi-media training materials supplied with each of the 4 modules.

Accredited or CPD
A CPD certificate will be issued by the Institute in addition to the Diploma.

Module 1:

Module 2:

Certificate in Grief and Bereavement

Why take this course? 

This course is aimed at those who wish to build on their knowledge and skills in this particular area of counselling. It will not only aid appreciation and understanding of the feelings people have in working through their grief but also techniques which the counsellor may use in helping the person move forward with their life.

These lessons are designed to assist people who work as couple or family counsellors, or are interested in this area of counselling. The student will receive training in the skills used by those in the caring professions, including; nurses, doctors, social workers, priests, ministers, teachers, careers guidance and youth workers.

Why take this course?

This course is directed towards the student with basic knowledge of counselling. However it also caters for those already working in the field of counselling or those who are employed in the helping professions.

The premises of Crisis Counselling are that:

  • People need people and can help one another
  • In moments of crisis most people may not need or find immediate professional help
  • Especially in moments of crisis or trauma counsellors might not be available
  • Lay persons who are highly motivated and carefully trained can be effective counsellors

  • Relating to human needs in this way is an appropriate clinical and pastoral ministry
